How to make money 101
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK GUIDE, YOU WILL HAVE TO SPEND TIME AND EFFORT TO BE ONE OF THE RICHEST IN THIS BOT. (or be incredibly lucky and win the lottery 24 times daily or 5 trophy giveaways daily)
Beginners Guide to Your First Trophy (for gambling)
Easiest way, win a giveaway or the Dank Memer Lottery. Lets assume that you aren't that lucky.
1, Trading, buy low sell high. You can find cheat banks for sale sometimes and there are many people willing to may much more for what you bought them for as long as you sell in bulk.
2, Voting, lets say you can get 13 votes each week, you'll get 29 banks and 29 pizza. (extra 3 banks and pizza from weekend boost). Banks at the moment sell for 250k each (or more) and pizza sells for 100k each. That's 10mil every week. (7.25 mil from banks and 2.9mil from pizza)
3, Heists, Join large Dank Memer servers and join the friendly heists held regularly by those servers. (Not giving a list of servers just incase this post gets taken down by the Dank Memer Reddit Mods) The Dank Memer Community Server has a lot of daily heists you can join. Make sure you don't have a lot of money in your wallet because of fines. You can buy items to get rid of wallet money, preferably pepe coins and pepe medals. Or you could find a friend to hold your money. (Don't use an alt or friend that doesn't use Dank Memer you'll get bot b@nned, Trust me it's a bad idea) You should be able to get a good 1-2mil daily or more from heists alone.
4, Rob Servers, After you've joined multiple large Dank Memer Servers, they will most likely have a rob server list. These servers have Dank Memer in them and rob enabled. With a robbers wishlist you can try to find people to rob. Not sure how effective this is but you can make an decent amount of money from it if you're lucky.
Use a mix or all 4 of these methods (Voting and Heists are the least risky safest ways to make money) Until you can afford a trophy, you can trade for one or buy from shop. Doesn't really matter. While your grinding for your trophy, I also recommend prestigeing as much as possible. You may get your trophy slightly slower but that extra multi 2% multi per prestige is worth it. You should be prestige 4-6 by the time you can afford a trophy if you're actively grinding and prestigeing once a week.
6 pepe medals, 50-60 pepe coins, or 500+ pizza is enough to guarantee a Trophy if you're trading with Others.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beginners Guide to Gambling
1, 80% multi (I would recommend 90% minimum) (some people gamble with 75%)
2, Decent sized bank (I recommend 5mil minimum, and also 10mil total bank and wallet. You can always go higher if you want to minimize the chances of going broke)
3, only pls bet maxnote: don't do slots max with low bank space or low multi, slots has extremely stupid win and loss patterns making slots max with low bank a bad idea. A slots losing streak and a bet losing streak with bankrupt you 90% of the time. However, if you have 100%+ multi and like 20mil+ bank space, go for it. (I've lost 30mil once to a bad bet and slots lose streak combined so don't say I didn't warn you [and before you ask, I did make it back the same day and then some] )
4, hope you get lucky and don't losing all your coins to a bad lose streak or a period of extremely low win rate.
Extra tips:
If you keep losing gambling games, switch a channel or server.
Break up your commands with other commands. I use "pls use tr" or "pls bj max"
You can also try changing from max to 500k or 5e5.
You can also try adding text to the end of your gambling games like saying "pls bet max hi".
I have no clue if any of these things help or is just pure superstition, but do it anyways, can't hurt to try (unless it's bj max lol)
This is my gambling stats:

Beginners Guide to Fighting
IDK ask an experienced fighter with 50+ trophies how to do it, I've heard that there are apparently "losing" and "winning" streaks during fighting too. Generally I wouldn't advise this but many people have gotten it to work. My friend has 3 blobs and 50 trophies from fighting so its definitely possible to make a lot of money this way.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beginners Guide to Trading
Just use your brain, it's not hard.
Well if you want to, then I guess just follow the principle buy low sell high. Try to find a loop of items to trade, sell or buy that gives you a net profit. Like buying and selling banks, or trading a Trophy for items you can then sell which gives enough money for another Trophy and some extra. You could always hope you get lucky and the item you stockpiled suddenly spikes in price. (Like how banks went from "30k is too expensive" to "200k each? that's pretty cheap")
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the end just do whatever you want to make money, these are just some tips from a random person. It's your choice to trust or disregard this post.
If you think I missed anything or want to call me an idiot cause this post sucks or have questions. Feel free to comment.

My first MMORPG being MapleStory really made me appreciate the other ones more
I think having MapleStory as my first MMORPG definitely changed my perspective on the genre. It’s a prime example of things people have as red flags for MMORPGs: super grindy, pay2win, greedy publisher, RNG gear progression, chibi graphics, and it’s practically a solo game. As a kid, I didn’t know any better. I just liked it because it was free and cute.
Fast forward to now and I tried out most of the major MMORPGs. Slogging through MapleStory really made me more appreciative of them. Kinda like how someone who’s been starved before appreciates food more than someone who’s never experienced hunger. That was a really dramatic example, but I hope you get what I mean lol.
I was just so amazed. As someone who likes reading dialogue in games, it was nice playing MMORPGs that let me level through questing and not grinding the same mobs over and over again. I remember playing through games like WOW and going “oh hey MapleStory kinda has a worse version of that” to basically everything. Mounts were actually useful too. (And they have a z-axis!)
I was so happy when I was in the same map as other players and they didn’t try to get me to leave. MapleStory’s community seemed actively against partying because it was less exp. There was a common phrase “cc pls” (cc = change channels) and it basically meant “fuck off I’m grinding alone.”
There was a big focus on soloing things. Last time I checked, a lot of the top MapleStory YouTube videos were solo bossing videos. Now I have nothing against solo players, but it felt too solo-oriented for an MMORPG. On the other hand, most group content just amounted to “pray that your guild is nice enough to carry you and give gear”.
There was no holy-trinity or class balance. New classes were objectively better. There were like 2 support classes and one of them, the Kanna, had a skill that increased the amount of mobs that spawned in a map which is huge in a game that’s centered around grinding as many mobs as fast as possible. It was so overpowered. There was practically no PvP either.
Gear progression was probably the worst part. It had these gambling things called cubes which used RNG to roll the stats you had on your gear. So you had to buy with irl money: cubes to progress gear, a shop to make it easier to trade, and a pet to pick up loot because mobs drop a lot of stuff and it’s impossible to pick it all up manually. There was also some convenience stuff like the teleport rock and the premium currency, NX, expires if you don’t use it. It’s almost scary how MapleStory’s predatory monetization hides itself behind cutesy art.
People usually recommend it when someone wants a game with low system requirements, but honestly it doesn’t run well on computers that aren’t at least mid-range. Sure you could get it to run on an older computers, but it’s going to be pretty slow. Especially in major towns or when you open your map. They also say it’s casual, but it’s extremely grindy and I remember there being a lot of dailies.
In fact, an old MapleStory YouTuber also quit and is doing way better making Pokemon content lol
That being said, I still have a soft spot for it because it was my first MMORPG. It has a lot going for itself. Soundtrack is great. It’s super alt-friendly. (Maybe a little too alt-friendly because you need to make alts for the skills they give) It’s a shame because it can be pretty fun and I think it’s the only 2D side-scrolling MMORPG left. The pet system is nice and pets are actually essential. I haven’t played in a while, but I saw they added a Reboot server without pay2win and they made cubes more accessible for free players. There’s a ton of classes to choose from. The story and lore are okay. It’s another reason to have multiple alts. To see the story from different perspectives. The graphics and characters are also really cute.
However, the flaws were too glaring for me. I’d rather pay for a sub fee rather than a chance at improving my gear in MapleStory. Premium items don’t expire after 90 days in GW2. I don’t have to leave my computer on to sell things at the auction house in WOW. I don’t have to pay real life money to teleport in FFXIV. There’s actual group content in ESO and the other ones. It’s a lot of basic things like that. I haven’t even gone into the botting, exploits, ruined economy, and server issues.
I see people bash the big 4 MMORPGs often and I’m sure they have valid criticisms, but in my eyes, they’re leagues ahead of what I was used to. It almost makes me glad that MapleStory was my first so now I don’t have a super high standard for them like the people who played actual good MMORPGs do.
I still wish I played good MMORPGS in their golden age like a lot of you did though. I was barely alive then. I started MapleStory in the early 2010s. By that time, MMORPGs were already asocial ghost towns. Maybe it’s just other people being nostalgic, but they made them sound more social and fun back then.
Anyways, MapleStory might have made me a little too tolerant of incompetence, but I’m still glad it was my first MMORPG.

Final Update of 2020
There's a LOT to cover, so this update will be split into multiple messages.
Holiday Changes - (Mostly to be reverted at the end of the month) - Changed bot avatar to be festive - Added new holiday random events (and disabled the rest until after the holidays) - Increased the chance of random events spawning by 3% for everyone - Added north pole to search (and disabled the rest until after the holidays) - Increased coin payout and banknotes possible from giftboxes - Changed vote rewards to include gifts to send to friends - Added two new jobs: Santa and Elf. Santa is the highest paying job to date. - Beg items are all holiday themed for now
New Commands - pls highlow - This SEEMS like a gamble command, but it's not really. It's more like beg. You don't put any money up, and you get a random amount back. The bot will pick a secret number between 1-100, and a hint number. You look at the hint number, and guess if the secret number is higher, lower, or the same (jackpot). Guessing correctly gives you some coins, guessing a jackpot pays out a lot higher. - pls snakeeyes - This is a gamble command. You make a bet, and you try and get snake eyes (which are two ones on the dice). One eye pays out 1x your bet, two pays out 5x. This will be the hardest gamble command to date for making money, but it also has the highest payout yet. Give it a go! In a later blog post, we'll be showing you the inner workings of this (And the other) gambling commands as well. - pls taxcalc - Shove in a number and get the amount you'd pay in taxes back out. Good for those who trade a lot.
Major Currency Changes - Level cap is now 5,000 up from 1,000. This comes with new titles, and level 5,000 comes with something fun that you'll have to discover for yourself. - New Item: Pizza :pizza~1: - Made for people with money to burn, this item can be consumed to gain a single level. - Changed tax rates (use pls taxcalc to figure them out) - You can now work every 30 minutes rather than every hour - Max item stack up to 100k - Min bet amount down to 100 - Removed commands: fortnite, hourly, yearly, (and asktrump which isn't currency but doesn't deserve it's own section) - Removed entire quests system. It was broken, unrewarding, and a mess of code. It'll be back but 100x better in the rewrite. - Postmemes is slightly different. Chance to break your laptop is MUCH lower.
Major Design Change Because it's often verbose to constantly say "500 coins" rather than something like "$500", we decided to adopt our own currency symbol. There was a tweet to vote for the new one (follow us @dankmemerbot for future stuff like this).
From now on, you'll see a lot more currency stuff that looks like this: "⏣ 5,000" rather than "5,000 coins".
Quality of Life Changes - A majority of currency commands now ping you, easier to see your responses in busy channels - You can now open up to 1000 lootboxes at a time - You can now use more than one bank note at a time - pls profile has a lot more info now - Lowered a ton of cooldowns, raised one or two to be consistent with others - Added all new dank memer server mods to pet name multi for mods - events now accept more than first answer (good for if you typo or smth) - Tons of small QoL changes requested over the last week or so
Bug Fixes - Duplicated level up rewards/notifs are finally gone - Blacklisted users can no longer be heisted - Pets will no longer gain any useless levels (past 31) - Blacklisted users can no longer join heists - All jobs should be able to be promoted now - Tons of weird edge case bugs fixed - Tons of inconsistent formatting fixed - Tons of typos fixed - Lots of other smaller bug fixes that I've probably already forgotten.
Conclusion I've put a lot of time and thought into this update, and I hope it makes your quarantined holidays a little bit more fun.
This is the last update of 2020 (minus one to remove holiday stuff), and it was a blast to hear what you all wanted changed for this. This update is just a small portion of what I've got planned for the next few months until the rewrite is ready to go.
Happy holidays, from the Dank Memer team.

I am 36 years old, make $66,900, live in Portland OR and work as a Data Coordinator.
Section Zero: Background Hello all, happy hoildays! I stumbled upon this subreddit not long ago and have enjoyed the commentary and experiences everyone's shared. Wanted to add another perspective from a mid-30s first-gen American. I've had some missteps regarding careers and finances, but I feel like I'm in a slightly better place now. I tried YNAB in the past but I wasn't consistent enough with it. These days I use Mint to monitor my finances and have a "Finance Friday" each month to review all my accounts and spending. I currently live with my partner TJ and his dog RR. We do not combine finances, but he has been unemployed since March. I have helped him with some bills and basic necessities here and there until he finds his next job or career.
My current financial goals are to just maintain a status quo and not get any debt until pandemic times are over. Then I will focus on a house remodeling fund and savings for taking care of my parents.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent/guardian(s) educate you about finances? My parents taught us about money from a frugal perspective. They are immigrants who worked in food service/factories. There was always this “save save save” mentality. Even when they started their own small business, we saved like there was no tomorrow. In high school, my calculus teacher bought us all “The Millionaire Next Door” book and had us read it as an assignment - that was my first structured introduction to finances.
Did you worry about money growing up? No, there was always food on the table and a roof over our heads. I knew that our extended family would support us if needed.
Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it? Yes. My dad didn’t finish the high school-equivalent in their country, while my mom did finish high school, but no college. My older and younger siblings took a different path in life after high school. I am the first and only in my family to graduate from college. My parents covered all tuition for my two bachelor degrees with the agreement that I support them fully during their retirement and send them gifts/extra money whenever I can. I feel very lucky and privileged that they were able to provide that education for me.
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net? 24 when I went on a work holiday abroad. My family was always available to help when needed, but the experience abroad helped me stand on my own feet. As an adult, I also inherited that “save” mentality and put a lot of my earnings towards savings. I didn’t date until my 30s, lived frugally, didn’t go out to eat/hangout with people, shopped thrift stores, and had very few hobbies. I am starting to “live a little” now though.
Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? Aside from the tuition, my parents have helped with a down payment for my first house and living costs during periods of unemployment.
Section One: Assets and Debt Retirement Balance If the place I was working at offered a 401k, I would always contribute up to the company match. I started my IRA in my mid-20s and would try to contribute the yearly max. I've stopped that the past 2-3 years though. My Other Brokerage is some play money, but I got tired of staring it and switched to index funds. I haven't contributed anything to it in a few years.
- 401k: $34,127 (5% company match on contributions)
- Brokerage: $22,421 ESPP
- Roth IRA: $40,615 VTIVX
- Rollover IRA: $15,760 VTTHX
- Other Brokerage: $7,235 VTI
- Coinbase: $1,286 ETH (mostly just playing around with it)
Equity if you're a homeowner Purchased my first home for $382,000 with 20% down, right before lockdown earlier this year. Perfect timing, right?? I plan to live here until my retirement. My parents contributed $15k while I used most of my savings for the rest.
Savings account balance: $3,073
Checking account balance: $7,800
Credit card debt: I charge everything on my credit card for the points, then pay it off each month using my checking account balance.
Student loan debt: Traditionally no student loan debt as mentioned in Section Zero.
Section Two: Income Income Progression (listed as gross income with cost of living area): High School
- $11/hour MCOL - Helped with small family business.
College and first “career” job
- $12-19/hour MCOL - I did events/banquet serving after classes and had an internship doing software administration.
- $22/hour MCOL - Junior web developer. I realized after a year that programming was not my calling.
Mental health break
- $12/hour LCOL - Work holiday abroad. I got a steady banquet server job for that whole time. It was enough to live minimally in a hostel, do weekend trips, WOOF and figure my life out.
College (again) and second “career” job
- $12-15/hour LCOL - Decided to go back to school for a different bachelor's degree. While pursuing that degree, I worked at hotels and events as a banquet server again. I also did “search engine evaluation” whenever there were tasks available.
- $36,000/year salary LCOL - Software administrator at a casino after graduation.
- $39,000/year salary LCOL - Systems analyst at same casino. I left after 2 years, feeling disillusioned with the casino industry. I moved back home with my parents until I could get back on my feet again.
Third “career” jobs
- $20/hour HCOL - Entry level advertising role. I was applying to all types of office jobs and that was my only bite.
- $45/hour MCOL - Cold-called from a global company who needed someone with my software administrator experience from the casino job. It was an 8 month contract. Although I was starting to love my advertising job, the increase in pay was no question.
- $65,000/year salary MCOL - After the contract ended and a few months of unemployment, I landed my current job at the same company. It is an “early career” role according to their job levels.
- $66,900/year salary MCOL - Cost of living and merit increases after 2 years on the job. Pre-COVID we got a $5000 bonus each year. They have now stopped bonuses as well as all COL and merit increases.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: Monthly Net (paid bi-weekly): $2,758
Deductions:
- Taxes: $1214
- (Pre-Tax) Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life) + HSA: $822
- (5% Pre-Tax) 401k: $256
- (10% Post-Tax) ESPP: $514
Side Gig Monthly Take Home: No side gigs at the moment, but I am thinking of signing up on
Upwork.com and doing Excel/data entry projects to help pay the mortgage.
Other Income: TJ’s friend will be staying with us for a month in January, who will pay rent of $800 including utilities. Depending on how that goes, we may take on a roommate in the spare bedroom long-term.
Section Three: Expenses Mortgage - when I bought the house, the plan was that I would charge TJ a portion of the mortgage costs as “rent”, but since his unemployment I am now covering it all myself.
Regular Monthly Payment: $1677.57
- Principal: $501.31
- Interest: $849.74
- Taxes & Home Insurance: $326.52
HOA: $30/year
Retirement contribution: Nothing additional than what's been mentioned.
Savings contribution: I used to do $50-100/month, but since COVID I’ve stopped contributing to my savings account.
Investment contribution: None at this time.
Debt payments: $100/month towards TJ's credit card balance of $2,307.
Donations: $10-20/month, usually towards Omaze or Planned Parenthood.
Utilities: - Electric: $45-65/month
- Water: $60-90/month
- Sewer: $30/month
- Garbage: $26/month
- Natural Gas: $30-80/month
- Xfinity internet: $60/month
Cellphone: On my parents plan.
Subscriptions: - LinkedIn: $29.99/month for TJ’s job search - he’s found it very useful.
- Amazon/Netflix/Hulu: We piggyback off family and friends’ accounts.
- Nintendo Switch Online: 19.99/year
- Costco: $60/year
Gym membership: Pre-COVID I did Orangetheory for a year. I started to pick up free exercise equipment from Craigslist this year, so we have a small garage gym now and utilize YouTube exercise videos instead.
Pet expenses: $10/month. TJ has stockpiled some Costco canned dog food before unemployment, but once that runs out I will likely cover the costs. We also started to make homemade dog food to help supplement.
Car insurance: $460 every 6 months. Car is paid off.
Regular therapy: I will start in the new year. Not sure what the costs are yet, but I will use my HSA to pay.
Vitamins/Medications: $20/month
Groceries & household items: $75/month
Miscellaneous (eating out, house purchases, gifts, etc): $100/month
Section Four: Money Diary Monday 6:30am Neighbor starts up their truck. We joke that it's our natural alarm clock. They idle for about 15 minutes before heading off. I go back to bed.
9am My real alarm goes off. I put the electric kettle on for some morning tea. While it's boiling, I do my morning routine: drink glass of water, take synthroid, use bathroom, brush teeth, quick shower. I then make tea - Jasmine Pearl English Breakfast with dark forest mix. I started ordering loose leaf tea in large amounts back in March instead of small bags or single serving packets. Seems more economical since I drink it daily. I let the dog out into the backyard so he can do his morning routine.
9:30am I go through my daily tasks for work. They entail checking processes and reports to make sure they ran successfully overnight. I then answer some emails and catch-up on Slack channels.
12pm Lunch is leftover roast chicken and quinoa from Saturday. I heat it up in the instant pot. Love that thing! Almost every meal of ours involves the instant pot. We hardly use the stovetop. We then walk the dog to the business park across from our neighborhood. There's a very short trail that runs along a drainage creek by the business park. It's quite muddy, but has a nice woodsy feeling. Over the summer, we saw sumac trees there as well. Free sumac spice!
1:30pm Department meeting on Zoom. Our director announces his resignation on the call. Everyone is shocked! Layoffs were announced for next year but this was not a part of it. I think it's a good move for him and he doesn't have to have this worry of layoffs over his head.
3pm I meet with an engineer from another team and talk about a data source they are in charge of. He helps me out in understanding it and we identify most of the fields that I need for a project I’m starting.
5:30pm I check in with my partner. He's been watching LinkedIn tutorials on internal recruiting, job coaching and general computeoffice skills. It's a career change that he wants to make - something where he can talk to and help people. He doesn't have a bachelor's, only an associates, and hopes these tutorials will get him a leg up in the job search. I sent him some entry level HR admin roles the other day and remind him to apply. I then heat up leftovers: homemade chana masala and rice. I add some butter and coconut milk to thin it out, so there's enough for both of us.
10:30pm I take some magnesium, vitamin D and Airborne. I say goodnight to the dog who sleeps in the office. Then I say goodnight to TJ. He sleeps in the spare bedroom on weeknights due to his snoring keeping me up. I'm a light sleeper while he is a pretty deep sleeper.
Daily total: $0
Tuesday 9am I check Reddit Secret Santa. My match seems like a really good person. Not sure what to get, but most likely will purchase something off their wishlist. I wish I was more creative with my gift giving.
11am Meeting with business stakeholder. She submitted a few changes to an existing data process about a month ago. I make the change while on the call and have her test. Success! Marking it off the todo list. I love when we can finish things directly on a call.
12:30pm I come out of my office to make lunch. I notice my partner is not home. I check my messages and see that he's stepped out to pick up a few things. I ask for celery, carrots, and kombucha. $17. I make a quick charcuterie board for lunch: Costco salami, cheese, homemade hummus and Triscuits. It's a simple, fast meal that’s always in our rotation.
2pm My partner is back and we take the dog out for a walk and quick round of disc golf at a nearby park. We mask up and play only a few holes. Disc golf is a pretty frugal activity, you only need 2-3 discs to get started. TJ remarks that my throws are getting better, but then again they weren't great to start with. We talk about Christmas/Birthday gifts on the way back home since he was born on New Years Day. He mentioned snowshoeing but asked to not spend that much. I'll do some research!
5pm I think about personal career projects. Should I put up a portfolio of projects somewhere? I decide to try and pull some Yelp data. There’s not a lot of data points that I was interested in. Regardless, I tinker with it for an hour. TJ asks if I'm hungry. I said not so much, but felt thirsty. Maybe some ginger soup tonight?
7:30pm Dinner is served - ginger carrot soup made in the instant pot. We eat some rice crackers with it. Lately I feel like we've been eating more vegetarian dinners. It definitely helps stretch our food budget. We end the evening by finishing Fargo season 3 on Hulu.
Daily total: $17
Wednesday 1:30am I'm woken up by the dog. He's been sneezing a lot and wheezes at random intervals. TJ doesn't have the money for a vet visit but I've offered to pay as long as he calls to make the appointment. I give the dog some coconut oil, rub his belly until he seems better and go back to bed.
7am Garbage day. We usually put it out the night before but I forgot. I get up to go, but TJ handles it. I think, at least. I'm too sleepy to pay attention and go back to bed.
9am I wake up and rinse some dishes that have piled up and put them into the dishwasher. We both grew up in households that had a home dishwasher, but forbade from using it. It was drilled into us that hand washing saves more water, unless you had a restaurant/industrial dishwasher. I think with modern home dishwashers, that's changed, so I wanted to try it out with our dishwasher and monitor the water bill. Don't have any dishwashing pods or powder, so I put some OxiClean in it.
12:30pm I overhear TJ on a call with a recruiting agency. It seems to be going well, lots of laughing. I heat up some taco lasagna that I freezer meal-prepped last month.
2pm Collaborate on a project at work with an engineer. My manager put me on this project since I was asking for an assignment on a more technical team. I'm learning tidbits here and there, but I don't feel like it's structured enough.
5pm I do an Orangetheory-At-Home workout and try to break a sweat. It's not the same as going to their studio.
6pm Charcuterie for dinner. Our fridge is full of store-bought and homemade pickles that go super well on a charcuterie board.
Daily total: $0
Thursday 7am I wake up tired. The house has been feeling more cold, which woke me up a few times. We keep the temp at 72F during the day, at night around 68F since we thought the bedrooms keep the heat in pretty well. My mistake!
9am I do my usual morning routine and login to work. My team mostly spends the morning sending each other emojis.
11:30am Lunch today is mini quiche, frozen chicken and veggie entree, and hot dogs. Not the most cohesive meal, but it fills the belly.
12:30pm TJ heads out to his mailbox that's 30 minutes away. He is still waiting on his tax return and a 401k withdrawal. His taxes had to be filed by mail for some reason, then the IRS office shut down due to COVID. So he wanted to see if it arrived yet at the mailbox. He also takes the dog to the vet's urgent care on his way. They didn't have any regular openings available until the end of the year, and the dog seemed to be getting worse. I give TJ $40 to mail a gift package to a friend in France and also reiterate that I'll cover the vet bill when he gets it.
4:30pm I pay some bills, my favorite activity (
not)! Sewer bill: $59.44 (billed every 2 months). Geico bill: $459.60 billed every 6 months. Then I follow up with my mortgage officer over email. I had sent her some documents for a refinance quote last week, but haven't heard back. Rates keep dropping, so I'm told, but what does that really mean? I do some research on
realestate.
5pm TJ messages me and says he'll be back for dinner. I ask him to pick up some Popeyes via drive thru since we both don't feel like cooking today. Popeyes is currently our fancy “going out to eat” food. $24.17 for a 4pc dinner meal and a 2pc dinner meal.
Daily total: $583.21
Friday 8:30am Busy morning at work. My phone is buzzing with emails and Slack messages. I try to answer them while I make tea.
10am Zoom Department happy hour. We reminisce about our director and then play those Jackbox party games. Some of them are hard!
11am TJ asks if he can make me anything for lunch. He suggests savory oatmeal, quick and easy. I tell him that I really appreciate him making meals/doing chores/etc without me prompting. We've been having conversations about "house project management" and mental load because I did most of the chores or I had to continually remind/tell him to do it. I'm really happy to see us progress on this front. I decide to work through my lunch break so I can end the day early. I don't often do that, but I'm ready to get the weekend started.
2pm I check on TJ in the spare bedroom and ask if the dog has been fed yet, since he was nipping at my feet. I notice something off about TJ and ask how he is doing. TJ is depressed about his personal life, career, finances. He doesn't know what to do, spends half the day meditating and reflecting on past trauma. I've been prodding him to get a therapist but he is confused about his insurance. He makes an appointment with a primary care doctor first. I feed the dog some homemade dog-friendly beef stew.
4pm My mom swings by the house (but doesn't enter). She currently works at a school who distributes free USDA food boxes since March. There's often many boxes leftover that would go to waste, so she will grab a box for us. Onions, potatoes, beets, turnips, eggs, cheese, butter, frozen veggies and frozen chicken. She also brought her vintage pasta maker. I asked last week if she ever used it these days and her reply was “no, feel free to have it”. I love pasta and noodles and figure it would be great to make it ourselves as a frugal hobby.
8pm We catch up on Mandalorian and watch silly Youtube videos before heading off to bed.
Daily total: $0
Saturday 9am I open up my web browser and look at Craigslist and NextDoor for free stuff. I've been scouring for free landscape rocks, pegboards, and wood for house projects. I had this grand ambition to redesign our backyard. It faces our neighbor and currently the fence is pretty low. They can see into our kitchen and bedroom and we can see them. But y'know, COVID and going from dual income house to single income means it all has to be put on hold. So I've been looking for free items in the meantime. Over the past months, I've gotten planter pots, plant cuttings, a raised bed, stepping stones, all from free listings. I don't see anything worthwhile so I go and make some tea.
11am I look at Amazon and make some purchases for Reddit Secret Santa. A foodie kit, DVD of their favorite movie, and some cute pens for their writing hobby. $54. I hope they like it!
12pm TJ heats up leftover stir-fry for lunch for us. I put on some Binging with Babish and we watch how to make pasta. We have a plan - TJ makes the pasta, I make the sauce. Perfect date night activity at home. We watch some more videos on pasta and noodles to educate ourselves.
4pm I start prepping veggies. Big batch of onions, canned tomatoes, ground beef and butter in the instant pot. Meanwhile, TJ works on the pasta by following Babish's instructions.
7pm We gorge on fresh made pasta and bolognese sauce. It's so good! We end up watching Fargo.
11pm Usually I'll be in bed by now, but it's a Saturday and not tired yet (probably because of all that pasta). We play some Kirby's Dream Course on the Switch.
Daily total: $54
Sunday 10am Quick walk around the neighborhood with the dog. He's on a new routine now with the medicine he's taking. It seems to be helping his breathing issues.
11am The pasta maker and flour is still out since we didn't clean up yesterday. There's some old pie crust in the fridge so I roll it out with the pasta machine for mini quiches. (Sally's Baking Addiction blog is my go-to place for her all-butter crust and quiche recipes btw). TJ helps by mixing up the eggs.
3pm I play some Genshin Impact (GI) on my phone while TJ plays Starcraft in the office. I don't usually play gacha games, but the Zelda BotW-style of GI appealed to me. A gacha game is a game with randomized characteitem boxes that you use real-money to purchase a “pull” or to spin the wheel. I know the gacha parts of the game can be a real money sink if you get addicted to them, it’s almost like gambling. My main team is Fischl, Bennett, Barbara and Noelle. I level up to AR 22 and look up free-to-play tutorials for the game.
6pm There's some leftover pasta from yesterday, enough for both of us. I throw in some roasted beets to round out the meal. We watch more Fargo while eating. Almost done with Season 3!
10pm I find a tour operator who offers a small, socially-distant snowshoeing tour up on the mountain. I reserve for two people - this will be TJ's Christmas/birthday gift. $75. Off to bed for another workday.
Daily total: $75
Weekly Total: $689.79 - Food + Drink: $41.17
- Fun / Entertainment: $75
- Home + Health: $59.44
- Clothes + Beauty: $0
- Transport: $459.60
- Other: $54.00
Section Five: Reflections Aside from the car insurance bill, this was a typical week for me, COVID or not. We make the majority of our meals at home and usually splurge on drive-thru/delivery once every other week. I may have overspent on the Secret Santa gift, but I don't often give gifts out to friends. It's not something our family does either. For TJ’s Christmas/birthday gift, we usually talk upfront about costs. I’ve gifted him fancy restaurant experiences the past 2 years, since we can share that experience, but obviously can’t do that now. Snowshoeing is a nice change of pace.
The conversations with TJ this week have given me thought on how to approach him differently about finances and working together in a relationship. I’m still unsure about the future financially, particularly as my parents near retirement age and that TJ has pulled out his 401k to pay his debts. I don't know if I can support both my parents and TJ together, so I am finding ways to upskill and/or side hustles without becoming a workaholic or bogged down by stress.
Writing this money diary was also the first time where I really paid attention to my past income and current income. I might be contributing too much into ESPP that could go towards the 401k or mortgage instead? I also seem to have been underpaid for what I did in past jobs, even in a LCOL area.

Bringing New Light to Barbarian Assault
tl;dr at the bottom
Edit: I spent some time today talking to members of other BA communities and gain many insights into the difficulties and challenges of this project. I’m not giving up this soon but... it is definitely going to take more brain storming. And perhaps if I don’t get any further then they have in the past, I’ll at least have tried. PM me if you’d like the discord link, else it’s in the comments but must be entered manually. < 3
I feel as though Barbarian Assault is one of the most important minigames in OSRS due to the reward item we all know and love, the Fighter Torso. However, obtaining the Torso is often such a hassle, that many players overlook or put off the minigame for long periods. The time commitment and level of stress often is so great that people would rather pay unruly amounts of GP to leech services to quickly power their way through the minigame and reap its rewards.
The reason this minigame is so "difficult" is because the majority of players, simply put, don't know what they're doing. So what happens when you don't have the GP to pay leech clans, or don't like the monopoly of it, or simply want to earn the rewards yourself but feel as though you can't because finding a team is a nightmare?
We're here to try and change that, to bring new light to the Barbarian Outpost. When you understand the basics of the minigame, you not only are able to obtain your rewards quickly, but the minigame itself becomes quite enjoyable, and running it become much less of a time commitment as you and your team become more competent in your roles.
We are not and do not claim to be as experienced as leech clans are in BA knowledge and gameplay so if you are trying to achieve your BA goals perfectly and quickly every time they can certainly do that for you, feel free to go pay them.
Otherwise, if you don't want to spend your gold on something that can be done for free and/or don't want to spend an ungodly amount of time obtaining rewards, then stick around. We're here to help you achieve those same BA goals in a much more timely manner than you would on your own, as well as teach you how to play so that you can get your Fighter Torso, and ultimately enjoy the minigame for what it is, enough to keep playing far past completing your achievement diaries, we want you to Gamble those points away for the most prized possession, the Pet Penance Queen!
tl;dr This is NOT a leech service, this is a new community I'd like to build up to help teach people how to play Barbarian Assault, so they can obtain all of their BA rewards in a timely manner in a completely FREE way.

Disclaimer: This discord is still very much under construction thank you for joining!
p.s. if you are interested in helping this discord along and have extensive barbarian assault knowledge, OR experience in hosting a discord servewriting discord bot scripts pm me, help would be greatly appreciated to make this project get on its feet quicker!
Edit: I don’t know why the Discord link isn’t visible I will try to update ASAP
Edit: Apparently we have to do this the old fashioned way... I really don't know why I can't just post the link. Hopefully you all can see this and the post doesn't get deleted... "discord gg / RuQmyph"

Entaren, The Tinkerer (Wall of Backstory Warning)
Entaren, the Tinkerer.
Entaren was born in a small village south of Noxus. At least, it used to be south of Noxus. When he was seven, the armies of the empire invaded the small kingdom that Entaren's village belonged to, and after a short and bloody conflict, absorbed them into the ever-expanding might of Noxus. Entaren's father was conscripted, and his mother soon fell ill and died, leaving the boy with no family. The tradition of his village dicated that he be passed to the monastary, but the tradition of Noxus dictated that he be taken to the capital. And so the young Entaren came to a training compound, where drillmasters attempted to mold him into an obedient soldier. But Entaren had a fiercly independant mind, and though he accepted drills and training as the price to be paid for survival, he mutinied against the Noxian ideal of might making right. At the age of ten, he fled the compound, though he knew that to be caught would mean being flogged to death, and began the journey home to his village. But when he arrived, haggard and worn by the months of traveling in secrecy, he found he could barely recognize his birthplace. The house he was born in was gone, and those whom he had called friends had all disappeared, either fleeing the empire or joining it's ranks, and so Entaren stole food and gear and continued south, over the mountains, to a land that he had heard his parents speak of long ago: Piltover.
After a brutal journey, Entaren arrived on the outskirts of the city, and finally allowed himself to have hope for the future. His first goal was to find a reliable source of food and shelter, for it had been nearly a year since he had first set out from the Noxian capital. Unfortunately, trouble found him first, in the form of a group of chem-punks from Zaun. One of them used a net launcher to snare Entaren, and he was dragged into the Grey. His hope began slipping away as the distant towers of Piltover vanished from sight and were replaced by the industrial misery of Zaun, and he cursed at how unfair life had been to him. The chem-punks ignored their captive, talking amongst themselves, and Entaren learned that he was to be sold, discreetly, to a man who made a profession of replacing organs for money, and was always willing to pay for 'donors'. His misery turned to fear of being cut apart on some grimy table, and he began to panic and scream for help. The chem-punk with the net launcher laughed and kicked him in the stomach, which set the others off laughing and jeering, though a sharp word about damaging merchandise kept them from joining in the beating. Pain and fear blended together, and Entaren knew that his life, hard as it had been, would soon be over.
Suddenly, a whistle of steam cut across the chem-punks laughter, and they fell silent. Mechanical whirring grew louder, and Entaren's captors let go of the net that held him, reaching for their weapons and raking the Grey with suspicious eyes. WHAM! The wall on the left side of the alley they had been walking down exploded into rubble, showering Entaren with jagged fragments. He curled into a ball, but he could hear the chem-punks shouting and firing crossbows. WHAM! A section of wall six feet from the first met a similar fate, and this time the destruction was accompanied by screaming. Entaren looked up, just in time to see a brassy... something, retreat out of sight. It had definitely been covered in blood, and sure enough, one of the chem-punks was down, looking as though he'd been struck in the chest by a large boulder. The rest of them scattered, cursing as they ran. Entaren stayed down, wary of whatever had done the damage. Another steam whistle broke the sudden silence, and a massive form emerged from the fog. It looked down at Entaren, and he could see the bright blue lights of its eyes. Sparks arced across its chassis as it reached a massive fist towards the boy, and suddenly his instinct kicked in. He struggled out of the net and jumped back, but the golem did not follow. It simply tracked him, and cocked its head to one side. That startled Entaren; was it considering him? It was a machine, right?
"Hello?" he said, his voice breaking. The golem was silent, but that could be a good thing. "Do you know somewhere safe I could hide?"
That got a response. It turned abruptly and began lumbering back the way it had come. Entaren followed cautiously, but the giant seemed not to be interested in him. They moved out of the back alleys, onto a larger road, and the denizens of Zaun parted like a river around a boulder as the strange pair passed through. The faces Entaren could see seemed curious, and a young girl with a metal arm called out "Hey you big junkheap, where'd you dig this one up?" The golem did not pause, and the girl moved on, leaving Entaren to continue his strange journey.
At last, the golem halted in front of a gate. It reached out a finger the size of Entaren's arm, and pointed it at the keyhole. An arc of electricity jumped out and made a loud POP, but nothing else seemed to happen. A minute passed, then two, then a boy who looked to be slightly older than Entaren appeared on the other side. "Hey Blitz, what're you up to? Oh," he said, noticing Entaren, "never mind, I got it. He's a bit preoccupied, so I'll bring this one down."
Entaren suddenly had a stroke of panic. What if this was merely a competitor, and his fate hadn't changed at all? He gazed warily at the other boy, and noticed that his legs were metal. They seemed to be a similar design to the arm he'd seen earlier. "Like my hardware? Don't worry, we aren't gonna cut any bits off you. Y'know, unless you're into that. Come on, I bet you're starving!" Entaren was, and so he left his fate to chance and followed.
Down a flight of stairs they came to a well-lit corridor. Entaren had never seen lights like these, that shone blinding white and cast eerie shadows down every crack and crevice in the poorly repaired ceiling. At the end of the corridor was a circular metal door ten feet tall. It was slightly ajar, and he could hear sparks popping on the other side, as well as other strange sounds he could not place.
"Hold up now, you can't go in there just yet," the other boy said. "We don't eat there anyway. C'mon!" He indicated a smaller, wood door to the left, and behind that was a makeshift barracks. The lights in this room were warm and yellow. He saw four sets of bunkbeds, a battered table, and a hot plate with a pot of something that smelled delicious bubbling away. Entaren almost ran to it, but the boy put a hand on his shoulder as he spoke. "Hey Diele, look what Blitzy brought home!"
A young woman peeked her head out from behind the pot. "Hello! He talk to Viktor yet?"
"Nah, but he's skin and bones and I figured we'd keep him here for a little. Feed him up, y'know."
"Well, it's certainly safer in here than the lab. What's your name?"
"Entaren"
"And what district do you live in?" Entaren didn't know any districts, but he decided that these people would be more likely to feed him if he told the truth.
"I'm from Noxus." The hand on his shoulder tightened, and the boy dragged him around to look him in the eye, panicked.
"What!? Oh damn, you can't be in here, Vik'll put us all in the street and vanish if he knew we let a spy in."
"I'm not a spy!"
Diele broke in, "Iro, if he were a spy, d'you think he'd tell us he was from Noxus?" Iro considered this for a full ten seconds.
"No, I don't think a spy would try that gamble. And he did come here with Blitzcrank, so he's probably not an enemy. The tension slid out of his voice. "Sorry 'bout that. What the Noxians could do with even some of the plans lying around down here..." His voice trailed off, leaving no doubt in Entaren's mind what he though of Noxus.
"If it helps, they conquered my home and conscripted me. I ran."
"Well of course you did," said Diele kindly. "Anyone sane stays away from those bloodthirsty maniacs. But how did you meet Blitzcrank?"
Entaren told them his story, stopping only to demolish two bowls of stew that Iro brought him. When he'd finished, Diele and Iro looked at eachother, and then back at him. Iro broke the silence. "Well, all things considered, you ending up here is probably the best outcome. If you'd gotten into Piltover they would've thrown you in a cell, and then shipped you to Zaun anyway, only not down the sort of alley that Blitz tends to patrol."
"Blitz. Blitzcrank? The golem... er... what is he?"
Diele smiled, "It's a protector, of a sort. Helps us Zaunites when it thinks it can."
"Originally they were waste disposal" Iro chimed in, "but Viktor did some tinkering with that one, and it sort of, well, became it's own thing."
"Tinkering?"
"Yeah, y'know, messing with something. Making it different. Better, hopefully, but most of the time you just end up breaking stuff. Viktor is the only one around here who always makes things better."
"Who is Viktor?" Iro didn't answer right away.
"He's an inventor. He tries to help, to make things better. But he doesn't like people all that much, most've the time anyway."
"Isn't he a person too?" Iro and Diele looked at eachother knowingly.
"Enough talk. Go sack out on that bunk over there, the one with the, um, the stains. We'll wake you when he has time to talk to you."
"Can I stay here?"
Diele's brow furrowed. "It's not our call. For now though, yes. You're as safe as you can be down here in Zaun." Entaren's belly was truly full for the first time in what seemed like forever, and his eyelids began sagging before he was halfway to the bed. By the time his face hit the mattress, he was already out.
He awoke to more delicious smells, and his bladder being insistent. He looked around; neither of his hosts was in the room. There was a small door tucked in a corner, though, and sure enough he found a hole that smelled like it was the right place. When he walked back out into the bunkroom, Iro had returned.
"Hey hey, En! You were out like the dead, it's been nearly a full day since you got here." He'd slept for a full day? When was the last time he'd had the opportunity to do that, Entaren wondered. Maybe never.
"Can I have some of that?" He pointed at the pot.
"Food'll be ready later, though I suppose a snack's a good idea." Iro went to a shelf and came back with bread and cheese. "Here, this'll keep you on your feet while the cooking finishes. Meantime, you ready to come meet Viktor?" Entaren didn't exactly feel ready, but he knew putting it off wasn't the smart thing. He nodded. Iro waited while he ate, then led him back out into the corridor with the white lights. "Now look, don't get too, well, freaked, when you see him. He's a great guy, brilliant, but..." Again, Iro struggled for words. "Well, just don't freak, OK?" Entaren didn't say anything. They reached the great round door, which he now saw was at least a foot thick, and slipped around it, Iro having to squeeze a bit. When Entaren stepped clear and looked at the room he now stood in, his jaw dropped. Everywhere, there were machines. He couldn't begin to guess at their purposes, but most of them looked to be in various states of disassembly. Off to the side, staring at a large black board covered in mysterious symbols, was a man. At least, Entaren thought he was a man. His silhouette was bulky, and he had something strapped to his back. Another machine?
"Hey Vik, this is the kid Blitz brought by to see you!" Entaren jumped as Iro shouted, suddenly less convinced that he wanted to meet this man. Viktor turned away from the board, toward the two boys by the door, and suddenly Entaren knew why Iro had asked him not to freak out.
It looked like a machine in the shape of a man. Not bulky and powerful like the golem Blitzcrank, though. This was a form clearly designed to seem human, but all Entaren could see was metal, steely and grey. Two orange slits glowed where eyes would be; there was no mouth. But when he spoke, the voice was a mans.
"Welcome, young one." Entaren stared, mouth agape. Iro laughed.
"I did warn you not to freak. It's ok, we already told him your story, he knows where you come from." That helped Entaren's nerves somewhat, but he was still uneasy looking at the man.
"Come," said Viktor, "let me show you one of my designs." His consonants seemed to vibrate as he spoke, and his feet made a distinctly metallic clink clunk on the ground as he strode off to a different corner of the room. Iro gave Entaren a push and a nod. Clearly, this was important. He followed Viktor to a table covered in drawings and sketches. Entaren was curious; his brain, so long constrained by the constant struggle to survive, felt alive in this room, this lab. And as Viktor gestured to a small device floating above a pedestal, a small smile crept onto his mouth.
"What's that?"
"It is a prototype, for a new way to move without touching the ground. Right now all the flight is done with gas, either caught in bags or set on fire and pushed out of engines, but this," he said, moving his metal hand into the space beween the device and the pedestal and gently raising his arm. The device hovered above his palm, only betraying a slight wobble. "This is more elegant. More sure of itself. And less likely to send you to a fiery death." Entaren couldn't help himself, and let out a chuckle. Viktor looked back at him, and tilted his head to the side just the way Blitzcrank had after rescuing him in the alley. Entaren made the connection: Blitzcrank had learned from it's creator, and suddenly everything seemed clear. This place, these people, and Viktor especially, they could be his home. Entaren's future opened wide in his mind's eye, and he knew that he would do anything to grasp it.
A decade has passsed, and Entaren emerges from his appreticeship with Viktor, hungry to change the world in ways it will never see coming.

Cost: 100 mana, Cooldown 180 seconds, Cast time: None.
PLAYSTYLE OVERVIEW:
Entaren is a specialist who can adapt to the needs of any battlefield. What he lacks in raw damage he makes up for in utility, being able to fill any role his team needs. However, his ultimate is tied to purchasing a Mythic item, and if he is kept behind for too long he can be pushed out of a game.
Entaren prefers a solo lane, as he doesn't have the stats or abilities to handle the jungle efficiently or the range to farm safely in the bot lane. His basic abilities can all be use both defensively or offensively, though it can be tricky to make the most of his kit considering all the conditional aspects of his spells. He must space his clicks properly to get the right effect out of his Smart Gun, he must preserve his Defensive Overcharge shield if he intends to get any damage out of it, and he must be ready to commit to a direction before using Booster Boots. His cooldowns leave clear windows of vulnerability for aggressive champions to punish him, but being a ranged champion will keep him farming even against the strongest bullies.
Once he hits 6, Entaren enters his power trough, as Scavenging Expert is an economy ability that must be used defensively. The faster you get your Mythic, the better, so play for gold and expect to get camped, because once you have your new tool, Entaren becomes a crafty and powerful champion. Enemy comp trying to run you down? Pick up the Sunfire Aegis and use Vanguard Armor to stop them in their tracks. Is your team struggling to make initiations? Get a Rocketbelt, and use your Rocket Ram to blast your way to the backline. Need to be the carry? For magic damage, Projection Form will let you decimate your foes from the safety of the backline, while the Hypercharger will make you an unmatched DPS machine. Energetic Thumper will help you outduel melee champions with repeated knockbacks and damage, while the Grappling Winch will let you dominate a sidelane 1v1 or assassinate a fleeing carry. The EMP will buy your team a golden moment in a teamfight, while Rodrigo will let you win wars of attrition. The Static Discharge Device is a fighters dream, letting you wait until the last moment to decide whether to commit for a kill or make a tactical retreat to try again later, and Chain Lighning can quickly become a teamfight-ender with enough AP. And if you want to get weird with it, Redundancy can take opponents by surprise with overwhelming basic attack combos, or insane chain item usage. In the late game, maybe the moment comes where you need something new for that one big fight, and Entaren's lower-cost Mythics give him an edge swapping styles, though you probably don't want to stray too far.
This champion is only possible now with the new system of items that Riot has introduced for Season 11 and beyond, and brings an exiting new take on the term 'flex pick'. Use Entaren however you want! Though he'll never be the best at any given role, his ability to adapt and overcome will bring him out on top.

How to Build a Smart Wardrobe with Reps
What’s up Repfam, hope yall are handling your quarantine swell. I wanted to make this post really to better understand my own taste and analyze why I like what I like. So some of this advice, but mostly probably just rants lol.
Like some of you, I have a TERRIBLE spending habit when unchecked. While I’ve been quarantined, I’ve been spending my days browsing this subreddit, Grailed, Depop, eBay, Ssense (super good sale going rn btw, def check it out)… you name it. And I know some of you guys are probably on the same boat as me. That being said, I know when someone spends that much time on these sites, it’s hard to not want everything you see. So this post is to help you build a smarter wardrobe.. that includes reps.
1. Have a good ratio. First thing I wanted to mention is that reps are almost never my first option. This is a post about building a smart wardrobe WITH reps not a smart wardrobe OF reps. I personally don’t think your closet should even be 50:50 and if it’s any more than that, you’re probably trying to live a lifestyle you can’t afford and if ANYTHING is gonna get you called out, it’s exactly that.
So back to buying retail vs. reps, I would much rather hit on SNKRS for a pair of Jordans than buy the reps, but if that bullshit app doesn’t put me through, and it’s a release I was super hyped about, I’ll consider buying the rep. This is because: 1. The high I get from hitting on SNKRS is only second to the high of Grade A cocaine. And 2. For a 1:1 pair of shoes, nowadays you are likely gonna end up paying maybe 30 bucks less than what retail was. So I might as well try to support the artists behind the shoe if I can.
If I don’t hit, then it’s open season. They’ve made all the money they can from the shoe and I’m not gonna put money in the hands of some piece of shit 16 year old with his mom’s credit card and a bot. I will never pay $400, let alone $1,000 for a $160 sneaker. I’d rather find the closest possible 1:1 rep of it and rock it with confidence.
2. Resell/Longevity …………I know I just shit on resellers in my last point, but hey, it’s a dog eat dog world, baby. One of the first things that go through my mind when I’m considering buying a piece for retail is how much money I can make back if I decided to sell it. That being said, don’t fucking sell your reps as retail you fucking scummy ass bummy ass motherfuckers. That shit is beyond unethical and is literally stealing and I hope your grandmothers get coronavirus.
But my point is, assuming that you’re reading this and you’re not a walking shit stain, when you buy reps, the second you buy them they are virtually unsellable, unless you’re selling on
FashionRepsBST where hopefully you’ll AT MOST break even. When you buy retail and vintage, certain pieces will hold their value even if you rock them for years. Reps can’t be investment pieces. So when you’re buying reps, you have to understand that they are sunk costs. It’s not money you can get back. Which takes me to my next point…
3. Be picky. When it comes to your reps, BE PICKY. Read reviews. Write reviews. Engage in the discourse. Not only will this save you from buying shit you don’t need, but it also makes reps better. Force the rep makers to boost the quality control; I’m sure most of us wouldn’t mind paying a bit of a premium if we can guarantee a 1:1. And when I say “be picky”, I don’t just mean QCing your stuff. I’m also talking about taking a step back and thinking about why you want the piece.
Also, I understand GPing. I’ve done it. But don’t go out GPing things that you aren’t dead-set on having. I get that it’s good for the culture, but you aren’t gonna build a smart wardrobe by gambling. What happens more often than not is that you get it in the mail, it’s terrible, and you just spent $20 on a pair of Yeezys, spent $40 to ship it half way across the world just to throw it in the trash or give it to your little cousin. So please be considerate of your closet and the environment. And fuck your little cousin, tell him to make his own bread.
4. Wearability Yes, we can agree that Off-White Chicago 1s are a dope ass shoe. But if you’re wearing them every day, you’re gonna look like a big tool.. but if you switch off every day with the UNC and NRG color ways and maybe throw in some Travis Scott’s every once in a while……
YOU’RE GONNA LOOK LIKE AN ENORMOUS TOOL. All these super hype shoes are fire as fuck, we can almost all agree on that, but if all you wear are BOGOs and hype shoes, you are not impressing anyone, if anything people usually look at you like the fool who is a slave to hype and can’t form opinions for themselves. Your closet does not and should not look like Qias Omar’s or Blake Linder’s. These dudes are characters on their own TV shows. It’s not realistic. And I’m not hating on them, but you have to understand that this is their business. They’re getting paid for this shit so they need to buy every shoe in order to make the content that puts the roof over their heads. I’m not saying they don’t care about it, but you also have to look at that stuff from a business perspective. They wouldn’t own half the shit they had if it wasn’t for Youtube/Instagram.
Also, probably the biggest takeaway from this and one of my biggest pet peeves: just because it looks good on
(insert your fashion icon here) doesn’t mean it’s gonna look good on you. You have to understand your own proportions and wear what suits you. I understand that we wear certain pieces because they emote a feeling of nostalgia or we just connect to it at more than just at a surface level, and that’s dope. More power to you. But if you think just because it looks good in pictures of
(insert your fashion icon here) that you’ll be able to pull it off in the same way, you are sorely mistaken. And you'll probably have a bunch of shit collecting dust in the back of your closet.
Stock up on your basics, man. Trust me when I say that the classics will never die. Levi’s 501s will never die. Dickies will never die. Chucks will never die. AF1s will never die. Combat Boots will never die. Basic hoodies will never die. Hype dies. Think about it this way: One day when your kids see photos of you in your heyday and they see the clothes you were wearing, do you want them to think “Damn, Pops had the drip” or “Damn, wtf were you wearing” and then you have to explain to them that it was popular back then. You decide. Are you gonna be an Air Force 1? Or a Roshe Run? Are you gonna be a Nike Cortez? Or a Balenciaga Triple S?
5. Personality This should go without saying, but wear what YOU like. Gain inspiration from different places. Just because hidden.ny posted it doesn’t mean you have to like it. Inspiration and imitation are two completely different things. The way I see it is: imagine
(insert your fashion icon here) is one of your homies and you start rocking every thing they’re wearing.. that shit is gonna look mad corny. Take as much inspiration as you need, but wear what you like, man. There are a million brands out there. Experiment with different silhouettes and proportions. Fashion is a form of expression, so express yourself the way you want to be seen and heard.
And PLEASE, for the love of GOD, support your friends clothing brands. I know you guys all know one or two people trying to start up a clothing line and I PROMISE you that supporting your homies is cooler than any pair of Yeezys you can own and it speaks more on you than any pair of Jordans you can own. Buying their $30 tee is a hell of a lot cooler than buying another pair of 158sir Ultraboosts.
Conclusion If you made it this far, I just wanna say wow thank you. I don’t know how you did it. A lot of this is just ramblings of a sleep deprived guy so don’t take anything I’m saying as gospel. I’d love to hear any of your tips as well as I’m also slowly developing my own taste. If you agree with anything I said, let me know. If you disagree, let me know. If I made you laugh or cry, let me know. After all, this is a forum. I’d love to hear what you guys think. But if you’re one of those guys who comment “YeS!! fUcK hYpEbEaSts!! We NeEd mOrE LoWkEy sHiT oN tHiS SuB LiKe KaPitAL and ViSViM!!!” on every post.. just shut up bro. You’re not special. If you guys could upvote for visibility, that would be super dope too.
